1. explain the need for safety.

2. enumerate measures that could be taken to ensure safety in the home, school,workplace and the environment.

3. list safety guidelines for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists.

2. Safety Measures in the Home, School and Workplaces

3. Safety Guidelines for Pedestrians, Cyclists, Motor Cyclists, Motorists, etc.

 

LESSON PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES

The teacher,

1. Guides students to explain the needs and measures for ensuring safety in an environment.

2. Lists safety guidelines for pedestrians, e.g.

  • walking on the left hand side facing on coming vehicle.
  • wearing bright coloured material while walking in the night etc

3. Teacher demonstrates safety guidelines for road crossing.

4. Identifies safety guidelines for cyclists and motor cyclists, e.g.

  • Use of safety helmets
  • Use of rider’s protection, e.g padded clothes, bright coloured jacket, etc.

5. Explains safety guidelines for motorists, e.g.

  • use of seat belts.
  • obeying all traffic regulations.
  • ensure proper vehicle maintenance.

 

 STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES

The students,

1. Listen to guest speaker ask and answer questions.

2. Explain need for safety.

3. Mention safety measures in the home, school and environment.

1. explain the effects of social issues and problems in Nigeria.

2. evaluate the measures adopted to solve social problem s.

 

CONTENTS OF THE LESSON

FOCUS LESSONS 

1. Effects of social problems; Poverty, underdevelopment, etc.

2. Ways of solving contemporary social problems, e.g.

  • government policies,
  • participation in civil society,
  • personal discipline, e.g. contentment, loyalty, fruitfulness, etc.

1. Teacher leads a discussion on the effects of social problems.

1. identify social problems in the Nigerian society.

2. discuss the causes of the social problem s.

 

CONTENTS OF THE LESSON

FOCUS LESSONS 

1. Contemporary Social Problems in Nigeria, e.g. exam malpractice, cultism, HIV/AIDS).

2. Causes of Contemporary Social Problems in Nigeria, e.g.

  • Poverty
  • Corruption
  • Lack of parental care
  • Greed, etc.

 

LESSON PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES

The teacher,

1. Involves the students in a pre-lesson identification of contemporary social problems by noting the frequency of occurrence of the problems on print and electronic media.

2. Guides class to discuss social problems and their causes.

1. Collate and report information on contemporary social problems.

2. Participate in class discussion social problems and their causes.
